MISSION
The goal of the technology department is to teach students not only to use various technologies, but to adapt to emerging technologies and challenges we face in the 21st century as technology changes so rapidly. Technology has such an impact on our lives, and we strive to prepare students to be conscientious in their use of technology. In our courses, students will:
- Understand the scope of technology
- Learn computer terminology
- Explore emerging technologies and learn how to adapt to new technologies
- Understand the ethical and social issues technology creates
- Become aware of how technology affects our daily lives and the decisions we make
- Understand how businesses function
- Explore various technological fields of study
- Develop good communication skills, work effectively with a team, and adhere to deadlines
- Learn how to give confident presentations
- Develop and foster their creativity

COURSES
TC 211 | Yearbook (1.0 credit)
Prerequisite: none.
Do you like photography? Do you have an interest in graphic design?
Students in the Yearbook course will be involved in the production of the school yearbook. The course will focus on layout planning and design, photography, copy writing and proofing. Students will take leadership roles, learn to handle deadlines, and advertise and market the yearbook to the community.
TC 231 | Video Production/E-Newspaper (1.0 credit)
Prerequisite: None
Do you like filmmaking? Are you interested in journalism? Students in Video Production will design and maintain St. Dominic Savio’s student newspaper ONLINE! Students will explore the fundamentals of video production as they develop, shoot, and edit video news stories and short films. Students will publish their work to Eagle Eye Online, the brand new student newspaper website. They will also have the opportunity to publish blog entries. Students will get to track website traffic to see how many visitors come to the site, which stories and videos are the most popular, and even what cities and towns their visitors live in!
Note: Students in this course are not required be on camera.
