College Planning

Welcome to the St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School Office of College Planning.  In a world where ‘one size DOES NOT fit all’, the St. Dominic Savio College Planning Office strives to incorporate this thought into an individual journey of self-reflection and research culminating in finding the best ‘fit’ college/university – a place where a student may be challenged, happy, healthy, and grow.

To ensure that St. Dominic Savio students and parents are up to date with the changing dynamics of competitive college admissions, the Office of College Planning will offer a comprehensive four-year program.   Throughout a student’s freshman and sophomore years, there will be meetings and workshops to help students and parents understand what they can do now to make the college search less stressful and more organized later.  When the students enter their junior year, the college planners will begin to engage the students in a variety of ways, including a college planning course during the second semester of the junior year.  This course will help students fully understand the college admission process and allow them to devise a plan for their summer and fall activities, ensuring that they are operating on a solid timeline.  Our students will be most prepared to succeed in all aspects of the college search-application-selection process.

Throughout this journey, each student will be valued and supported as individuals.  Students will be expected to take an active role in the process and participate in all college planning related activities.  Throughout a student’s four years at St. Dominic Savio, each will be encouraged to discover themselves in a variety of ways – spiritually, academically, physically, artistically, and socially.  The more a student discovers about oneself, the more in-tune they will be with their needs and desires.  The college planner’s responsibility will be to provide support, information, and resources for each student leading to a better understanding of how their needs and desires can guide the college search.  With the knowledge that a student learns about oneself through guided reflection and research, the college counselor will assist each student in finding a college/university that qualifies as a good ‘fit’.  Finding the best ‘fit’ college/university will be the ultimate goal of this journey and is of the utmost importance to the college planners.

The Office of College Planning looks forward to watching the students grow and mature, listening to their goals and dreams, and helping them navigate the complex world of college admissions.
