Congratulations to Holy Family Catholic School, the winners of Savio’s first annual middle school math competition. Seven teams participated from Austin area Catholic elementary schools. St. Theresa’s placed second with another team from Holy Family placing third. All teams participated in an individual math competition, individual number sense, group problem solving competition and an engineering competition. The engineering competition involved creating a bridge that needed to support water bottles. Both parents and students enjoyed testing the bridges made in the engineering section and many teams had creative ideas.
The event was run by the student members of Mu Alpha Theta, Savio’s math honor society. Every aspect of the event was done by the students including: creating the tests, grading the test, and all logistics around running the day of the event. The event is used as the organizations fundraiser to pay for Pi Day activities in March.
