Varsity Boys basketball:

“The Savio Eagle Boys basketball team ran their state-ranked season to 9-2 as they pulled away in the second half against Giddings State School.  Savio started slow defensively and found themselves behind early on only to rally in the second half for a 74-52 victory.  Though not their best defensive effort, the Eagles were led by the timely offense of Cole Korte, Quinn Robichaux and Ricky Minor who all scored in double figures–Cole Korte tallied a season-high 29 points for the night.  Josh Williams came off the bench to pull down 8 rebounds and score 4 points against Giddings’ strongest inside player.
The Eagles will be in practice-only mode until next Friday where they will travel to state-ranked Milano for JV and Varsity contests.” – Coach Jernberg

Boys soccer:

The Savio Boys soccer team notched their first district win last night with a solid 4-1 victory over San Juan Diego, behind two first half goals by Ryan Johnson.  Later in the game, goals by Wayne Lee (assisted by Evan Rivas) and Ryan Nichols (assisted by Ryan Johnson) put the game away.  Luke Rivas in goal and the Savio defense shut down Juan Diego and held them to only one goal.

Girls soccer:

The Lady Eagles suffered another loss against St. Andrew’s, giving up 7 goals for a final score of 0-7.

The JV Girls started the day off with their first game of the season and suffered a difficult loss, 25-27.

The JV Boys followed with a loss of 27-40.

“Tough first loss of the season is the result of 24 total turnovers and a scoreless 3rd Quarter. Dominic Kress led the scoring with 6 points. This game was a good reality check and the players are determined to get back to practice and games to keep improving” – Coach Alvarez

The Varsity Girls once again represented.  The girls played an all around great game to beat San Marcos Baptist 78-31 and remain undefeated in their 9th game of the season.

Varsity Boys came from behind in the second half and won 57-49.

“After failing to score in the opening quarter, the Eagles went on to win a hard-fought overtime win over state-ranked San Marcos Academy 57-49. In foul trouble early and misfiring through much of the first half, the Eagles anchored down a solid defense and finished strong for their 7th win of the season. Savio was led by the timely scoring of Cole Korte, Quinn Robichaux and Ricky Minor with solid backup work from many others. Matt Russell had a perfect shooting night and John Kistler’s clutch rebounding helped greatly. Special recognition goes to the whole team for turning the ball over only 10 times against SMA’s strong pressure.
The Eagles open district play this week with games against Central Texas Christian School on Tuesday and Gidding School on Thursday, both games at home. Show your pride and spirit by coming and rocking the Eagle’s nest!” – Coach Jernberg
