The Savio Eagles completed a successful run at the Austin Waldorf tournament, finishing with a 2nd place performance.

SDS downed Concordia Academy 71-18 to open the event, led by command performances by Ricky Minor and Cole Korte, with solid bench efforts from Matt Russell and John Kistler.  Four players finished in double figures. In the second game, the Eagles defeated a solid Waco Vanguard squad in a hard-fought contest 46-42.  Quinn Robicheaux had a solid shooting performance and led the team in rebounds.  The game wasn’t decided until the last 15 seconds of the contest.

After a short 2-hour wait, the Eagles were overwhelmed early on by the #4 State-ranked Austin Waldorf.  After being down by 20+ points at half-time, SDS fought back in the second half and made it challenging before running out of gas and falling 56-31.

The Eagle efforts were rewarded with both Quinn Robicheaux and Cole Korte being named to the all-tournament squad.

St. Dominic Savio will host New Braunfels Christian this Monday evening and will be on the road to Gateway Charter on Tuesday night.

The Savio Eagles showed great effort and resilience last night in a contest against undefeated SMHS but suffered from cold shooting and 25 turnovers to lose 33-50.  A close halftime score of 22-24 became a route in the second half as the Panthers heated up while the Eagles were going ice cold.  Cole Korte led all Savio scoring with 12 points while senior Ricky Minor pulled down 11 rebounds.  Also, Daniel Miksch, in his first game back from football, came off the bench to pull down 8 rebounds in the losing effort.

Savio travels to Waldorf this weekend for a 3-game tournament including two State-ranked opponents.  They open with Concordia Academy at 6pm on Friday evening with two games on Saturday.

The Capitol Area Food Bank shelves are drastically depleted due to the Bastrop wildfires and Savio wants to help.  In an effort to help them restock their shelves, at tonight’s basketball games we are challenging the Savio community to fill as many grey trash cans as we can with non-perishable/canned foods. Let’s show our Savio students they can make a difference!

Entry to the games tonight can be 2 canned food items. This is a huge challenge for a great need. Let’s show our Savio spirit of servant leadership tonight at the Nest!

How many trash cans can we fill up? Our goal is 8 trash cans full of food by the end of the night.

Soar Eagles!

The Savio football season came to an end Friday night after a 57-12 playoff loss to Woodlands Christian.  The Eagles fought hard and displayed toughness and very physical play against the Warriors of the Woodlands Christian.  Daniel Miksch threw two touchdown passes – the first to #85 Luke Williams and the second to #10 Daniel Minor.  The Savio crowd played a tremendous role in the efforts of the team.  Savio fans stood for all four quarters with chants of “We Believe” and a lot of credit for Friday night’s performance should be given to the Savio fans for standing behind the team all night.

As the season comes to a close the football program will have to say goodbye to four seniors – #12 Daniel Miksch, #50 Ryan Puetz, #70 Charlie Harrell, and #88 Zach Orrison.  These four young men will forever be Lifetime Eagles and have been a very vital part to making history in the football program – first win, first home win, first district win, and the program’s first playoff appearance.  They have left a lasting legacy as the foundation of the Savio football program.
