The Savio JV team won the Texas School for the Deaf Tournament Championship with a thrilling 25-23, 25-17 victory over rival Round Rock Christian Academy.  Everyone’s effort and cheering led to a dominating 11-1 set record.  Our Freshman team followed closely behind with an inspired Consolation Bracket trophy win over San Juan Diego.  Many thanks to all our fans and hard working players.  We could not have survived the day without you!

Comments from Freshman Coach Jay Fergusen: “…[as for] the FRESHMAN, winning the consolation bracket was not easy by any stretch, we are battered and bruised from the continual practice and countless games leading up to this event, I would say they exceed the expectations of the coaches and we all saw a glimmer of things to come for the St. Dominic Savio CHS Lady Eagles Volleyball program for years to come!  This program is rich in talent and long in depth, a successful program starts with our youth and our freshmen are the future senior’s state finalist!  Another unknown to many is we were the only “true freshman” team in the tournament, which speaks volumes to their young desire to grow as young players and women to play older players and win.  We learned some really good life lessons that day!  I experienced true grit and determination of each athlete to overcome the odds to win!  And I would say this for the JV as well, really both teams came together to beat the odds that day, we all saw some growth in both teams.  As a coach that is all that you can ask from your players, to grow as athletes and as young women.  All of the girls will remember this day for years to come!”

The Savio football team dropped a hard fought game Friday night to the Waco Texas Christian Stars at Savio Field.  The Eagles opened up with a bang when on the first play of the game Preston Heaney (#52) recovered a fumble and returned it 25 yards for the first touchdown of the night to give the Eagles an early lead.  Kicker, Matt French (#1), added the extra point to make the game 7-0.  The Eagle offense could not get going throughout the first three quarters and entered the fourth quarter down 27-7.  Daniel Miksch (#12) began finding his targets in the fourth quarter with a big strike to Daniel Minor (#10) that went for an 80 yard touchdown; Matt French (#1) added the extra point to bring the Eagles to within two scores.  Daniel Miksch (#12) then found Eric Shempert (#9) for an 8 yard touchdown pass and catch to bring the score to 27-20; Matt French’s extra point attempt was unsuccessful.  The Eagle defense forced a late turnover to give the offense one last effort to tie the game.  The Eagles came up 20 yards short of tying the game with the final score being 27-20.  The Eagles will have the week off and return to action at Savio Field against UIL Class 1A Somerville on September 30, 2011 at 7:30p for Newcoming.

As a community St. Dominic Savio wants to respond to those in need from the recent fires. We feel the best way to be servant leaders is through prayer and the support of drives that have been already established.

Please join us in this novena for all those suffering from these fires. Mother Cabrini is patron saint of displaced persons and Saint Florian is patron saint of firefighters.

Novena to Mother Cabrini
O loving Savior, infinitely generous, seeking only our interest, from your Sacred Heart came these words of pleading love: “Come to me all you that labor and are burdened and I will refresh you.” Relying on this promise of your infinite charity, we come to you and in the lowliness of our hearts earnestly beg you to grant us the favor we ask in this novena (peace and safety for all those fighting against and affected by these fires), through the intercession of your faithful servant Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, Amen.
St. Florian, protect us! Amen

Say this novena nine times in a row for nine days in a row.
